About the Workshop

Participants will engage in learning and practicing simple mindfulness activities that will allow them to shift their lens and calm the body even amidst the hectic pace of life. Attendees will also have the opportunity to reflect on both the purpose and meaning that emerges from the work they do and learn how to return to them as a valuable touchstone in the midst of overwhelm and stress.

About Martha Rouleau

Martha Rouleau was a committed public school educator for over 31 years in the role as a science and math teacher, department chair, and as a middle school Assistant Principal and Dean of Students in the state of Connecticut before relocating to Virginia in 2018. Trained initially as a marine biologist, Martha’s love of science drew her to explore the field of mindfulness in 2007. After exploring research on mindfulness (cultivating purposeful awareness in the present moment with an attitude of friendliness), Martha became a committed mindfulness practitioner from the onset of participating in a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction class. Through the eight -week training, Martha recognized an increased ability to be in the present moment with awareness that allowed her to respond more positively to stressors. Additionally, by cultivating the ability to pay attention through practicing these various tools of mindfulness, Martha experienced less anxiety, stronger ability to pause before responding, and a deeper connection to herself and others. She ultimately earned the credentials as a Qualified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction teacher after completing the requirements for the credentialing.
