    Richmond, VA - During its Annual Meeting & Luncheon at the Virginia Cliffe Inn, NAWBO Richmond welcomed its NAWBO Richmond Chapter and Foundation 2019-2020 Board of Directors.

    Since 1982, NAWBO Richmond has provided a strong voice and vision for women business owners and corporate partners in Central Virginia. NAWBO Richmond's programs are designed to:

    • Strengthen the wealth creating capacity of our members and promote economic development;
    • Create innovative and effective changes in the business culture;
    • Build strategic alliances, coalitions, and affiliations; and 
    • Transform public policy and influence opinion.

    The Richmond NAWBO Foundation is composed of volunteer board members. Members of the Foundation serve for a full term of one year, beginning at the start of NAWBO Richmond’s fiscal year. The Foundation is responsible for building partnerships, while conducting and supporting various charitable and educational activities of the NAWBO Richmond Chapter.

    ~ Award Winners were announced during the Women of Excellence Awards Celebration~

    RICHMOND, VIRGINIA – Celebrating the accomplishments of successful women entrepreneurs and community leaders, NAWBO Richmond announced its 2019 Women of Excellence Award Winners during its 21st Anniversary Women of Excellence Awards Celebration May 1, 2019. 

    In addition, NAWBO Richmond celebrated our youngest entrepreneurs, recognizing top selling girl scouts in partnership with the Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth.

    The Women of Excellence Award Winners for 2018-2019 include:

    Children's Home Society of Virginia Community Leader

    The winner of the Community Leader award demonstrates that she goes the extra mile to get involved in programs and activities that benefit the community in which she lives and works. This individual will display leadership, initiative, creativity and dedication to her community. Through her involvement, she inspires others to get involved and to make a difference in the lives of others. When selecting the recipient, the Awards Committee places heavy consideration on community service and community activism.

    The winner of the 2019 Children's Home Society of Virginia Community Leader Award is Monique Johnson, Better Housing Coalition.

    NAWBO Richmond Rising Star

    The winner of the Rising Star Award demonstrates how her business has made a visible impact in the industry or community, provided a unique or unusual service or product, or provided a traditional service or product in a unique or highly successful way. The winner must articulate how she has overcome obstacles and responded to adversity on her journey to success.

    Congratulations to Stevie McFadden, Flourish Spaces, the 2019 NAWBO Richmond Rising Star.

    Wells Fargo Women in STEM

    The winner of the Wells Fargo Women in STEM award will show persistence and tenacity in pursuing scientific excellence of truly world-class quality. In addition, the winner will have a significant track record of discovery, research and development.

    The winner of the 2019 Wells Fargo Women in STEM Award is Elaine Horn-Ranney, Tympanogen.

    BDO Entrepreneur of the Year

    The winner of the BDO Entrepreneur of the Year Award demonstrates success in leading a business and excellence in facing challenges, maximizing opportunities, and achieving goals. In addition the winner shows innovation in business, product, service, or ideas and must articulate how she has overcome obstacles and responded to adversity on her journey to success.

    Congratulations to Michele Rhudy, Rhudy Communications, the 2019 BDO Entrepreneur of the Year Award Winner.

    University of Richmond Student Entrepreneur

    The Student Entrepreneur Award recognizes a student currently enrolled in high school, college or graduate school who is successful in the development of a business and/or able to demonstrate a viable business plan. The winner would demonstrate innovation in business, product, service, or ideas. The winner would articulate how she has overcome obstacles and responded to adversity on her journey to success as well as how she expects to succeed in and grow the described business.  The University of Richmond Student Entrepreneur of the Year is awarded $2,000 in scholarship money.

    The winner of the 2019 University of Richmond Student Entrepreneur Award Winner Morgan Rhudy, Girl Power Grants.

    Making an Impact: 2018-2019 Women of Excellence Finalists

    Start off 2019 with a bang!  We are so looking forward to our NAWBO Richmond Holiday Luncheon this Friday, January 4, 2019!

    We will hear inspiring words from Morgan Rhudy and Michele Rhudy, Girl Power Grants, and Lorae Ponder, Executive Director, HomeAgain, recipient of a $10,000 grant from Girl Power Grants this spring as part of their 3rd Annual Big Give! 

    And of course we will still hold our food drive to support our Greater Richmond community and Feed More!  The need for support is year round so we encourage you and your colleagues to contribute -- both canned goods and monetary contributions are welcome.  Following our Holiday luncheon, we will bring everything to Feed More!

    Celebrating the accomplishments of successful women entrepreneurs and community leaders, NAWBO Richmond welcomed back its 2018 Women of Excellence Award Winners to its Annual Luncheon.  

    Our thanks to BDO Entrepreneur of the Year Natalie Gordon - Avenue 42 LLC & The Coterie Suites; Entec Systems Community Leader Carrie Roth - Activation Capital; Volvo Penta of the Americas, LLC Rising Star Charis Jones - Sassy Jones Boutique; and Wells Fargo Women in STEM Susan Winslow - Delta Consultants for taking time to visit with us and sharing wise words of wisdom, courage and inspiration!  

    We were also delighted to host our June Community Partner, the Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation and hear more about their important work to cultivate awareness and understanding of teenage depression and anxiety.
