More about Maria:

Maria Pia Tamburri is the senior community engagement policy director at Dominion Energy.  Ms. Tamburri leads the company’s community engagement efforts across Dominion Energy’s footprint. 

Previously, she was the Director of Public Affairs at Allegion, plc.   In this role, Maria led global public affairs and crisis management.  In 2013, Ms. Tamburri was founder and President of MPT Strategies, a public relations consulting firm.  

Ms. Tamburri served as the Chief of Strategic Outreach Initiatives for U.S. Africa Command in Stuttgart, Germany.  Prior to joining, U.S. Africa Command, Ms. Tamburri was the Senior Advisor for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs at the Department of State’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs.   She served as the Director of Specialty Media in the White House Office of Media Affairs and a spokesperson to Hispanic media for President George W. Bush from 2003 to 2006. 

Ms. Tamburri also served in the Office of Public Affairs as Specialty Media Coordinator at the Department of Housing and Urban Development under former HUD Secretary Mel Martinez. From 2001 to 2002, she was Special Assistant to the Office of Communications at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  From 1998 thru 2000, Ms. Tamburri worked in the House of Representatives in the Judiciary Committee and House Government Reform Committee.

Ms. Tamburri is a graduate of Florida International University in Miami, Florida, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science. She also studied Latin American politics at the Universidad de Belgrano in her native city of Buenos Aires, Argentina.   

She is married to Alexander G. Flakas and has two young daughters.
